CNC Machining in Missouri

CNC Machining (Computer Numerical Control Machining) is a common manufacturing process in Kansas City and throughout Missouri, that uses computerized controls and machine tools on a workpiece to remove layers and design a custom part. The process can be done on a wide variety of materials, such as metal, plastic, wood, foam, or glass.

Many people consider CNC machining in Missouri to be similar to other processes like 3D printing. Although there are some similarities to the two methods, there is one significant difference; CNC machining produces the proper shapes and designs by removing layers, while other processes get their finished products by adding materials.

Many companies in Kansas City opt for CNC machining because it has proven to be a very accurate, high-precision process when making the most dependable parts. It has proven to be a very cost-effective way of producing reliable parts for both medium and limited production runs in Missouri.

The CNC process is used to produce parts and products for a wide variety of industries by using mechanical, thermal, chemical and electrical processes. Whether it’s for agriculture, lawn care, automobiles, the medical field, or aerospace, CNC machining in Kansas City has made a significant impact on how our workforce receives the most accurately designed parts and products that we use every single day.

Our practices have been tested through the years for maximum benefit for our customers and their project needs.

There are three very common mechanical CNC machining operations used in Missouri:

  • CNC Milling

  • CNC Turning

  • CNC Drilling

CNC Milling

Milling is when a workpiece is constantly rotated, and layers are removed by using multi-point cutting tools. The workpiece is fed in by the CNC machine in the same direction as the cutting tool’s rotation. This differs from manual milling, where the workpiece and the tool are spun in opposite directions. Most milling operations in Kansas City are used for face milling and peripheral milling.

CNC Turning

When a single cutting tool is used to remove material from a spinning workpiece, this process is known as turning. This is a common practice for workpieces that require boring, facing, thread cutting, or grooving. It is an ideal process when working with round or cylindrical parts.

CNC Drilling

This process involves using multi-point drill bits to create holes in a given workpiece. The CNC machine inserts the bits into the surface or a workpiece perpendicularly to create the necessary holes of the desired size.
